Sleep

Sleep FAQs

  • Rest is a critical part of our overall health and wellbeing. Rest the time when our bodies, minds, and spirits heal and recharge.

How does this work? Let's break it down.

Body: When we sleep, our bodies have a chance to do all of the good repair work that needs to happen day to day. If you did a lot of physical activity, sleep is when your muscles repair themselves. If you're feeling a little sick, sleep is when you immune system can do a deep clean. In states of rest, we're also digesting our food and turning it into energy our cells can use. That's why we call this state Rest and Digest!

Mind: Sleep is when our mind also get a chance to recharge. Just like that battery on your phone, when your body battery gets low, it needs a plug in. Sleep is that plugin. When we sleep, we process information, store memories, work on problems and dream.

Emotions: Ever noticed that when you get less sleep then normal, you tend to be more annoyed or frustrated? Sleep is critical for our emotional regulation. If we're not sleep, we're not giving ourselves what we need to reset the emotional palette.

  • Sleep is the core part of rest. We need to do it. We will spend minimally a third of our lives sleep. That is how important sleep is!

There are other practices that encourage rest and restoration that we can incorporate throughout our days to ensure that we are balancing the amount of stress we encounter and our body battery. These practices include meditation, restorative yoga, breathwork, yoga nidra, non-sleep deep rest, nature bathing, even taking naps!
